Power and Participation: The 25th Conference of the Nordic Sociological Association 2011
4. – 7. August 2011
University of Oslo, Norway
For decades studies of power have been central in Nordic sociology. Almost a decade after the Danish and Norwegian Power Studies were closed in 2003, it is time to bring up the theme once more, asking not only about power in society at large, but also in organizations, ethnic and gender relations, communities, and in cultural constellations. Special sets of questions are raised when regarding power as part of structural complexities. In addition to viewing power as a set of top-down constraints, bottom-up perspectives concerning changes in autonomy and control among ordinary citizens become essential when adding questions of participation. The conference aim to expand our knowledge of power and participation from different angles and approaches, and we want you to take part in the discussion.
Welcome to Oslo in August 2011
